Salary

As a nurse in the Netherlands, you can expect an attractive salary. It is based on a clear, transparent scale established in the Dutch Collective Labour Agreement, ensuring you are paid fairly for your experience and role. Average fulltime monthly salaries start at approximately €2,750 and will increase every year. Working weekends and evenings pays extra (up to 60%).

32-hour contract

You’ll typically work 32 hours per week, which strikes a balance between professional and personal life.  

Irregular hours allowance

If you work during irregular hours, such as evenings, nights, or weekends, you will receive extra allowances. These shift differentials recognize the flexibility and dedication required to work outside of standard office hours.  (122%, 144%, 160%)

Holiday pay & year-end bonus

In addition to your salary, you will receive 8% holiday pay in May and a year-end bonus (also known as a 13th month) in December. Both are annually and add approximately an extra month’s salary to your annual earnings.  

Paid vacation days

You will receive 20 vacation days per year with a 32 hours per week contract. This gives you plenty of time to explore the beauty of the Netherlands or Europe. Or to visit your family and friends back home.

Applying at Aethon

Work Visa Application
(only required for non-EU citizens)

You will be guided through the process of obtaining a GVVA (Combined Residence and Work Permit), allowing you to work legally in the Netherlands for up to 2 years.

Dutch language course

To ensure you are comfortable with the language, you will complete a Dutch language course up to B1 level in your home country. This will help you communicate effectively with patients and colleagues when you start your role in the Netherlands. We will pay for this course.

Visa extension (only required for non-EU citizens)

Once in the Netherlands, you will receive a 2-year work permit. After the first 2 years, your GVVA can be extended and after 5 years, you can apply for permanent residency, giving you the opportunity to live and work in the Netherlands long-term.
